Stencil Outline Technique

It was fun to experiment with CS® stencils, inks and sprays to make these cards. You can utilize both the "positive" and "negative" stencil images in your creations. Grab your stash of stencils and let's get crafting!

Sprays and Negative Image

Place a stencil over a white panel in a "spray tray" (aka: Club Scrap Pizza Box).

Lightly spritz a variety of colorful sprays over the stencil and panel.

Carefully remove the spritzed panel from underneath the stencil.

Place a new, white panel onto the surface of the wet stencil.

Dab lightly with a paper towel to remove any excess spray, if needed.

Remove the panel from the spray tray. Set it aside to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Repeat the process with additional stencils from your stash.

To create more definition, place the stencil over the corresponding (dry) panel, making sure to align the image.

Trace along the inside edges of the stencil with a black fine-tipped pen.

Or, simply trace the images free-hand (without the stencil as a guide).

Let's take a look at some finished examples:

Fairytale - Julie

Let it Bee - Julie

Lagoon - Julie

Ink and Positive Image

Geometrics - Lisa

Mask off an area on a white panel with removable tape. Position the Geometrics stencil over the masked area. Apply Yellow Hybrid Ink through the stencil with an Ink Applicator Brush. Outline the stenciled image with a black fine-tipped pen. Pair the finished panel with an image and sentiment from the Flower Power stamps.
