Sunburst Scraps Technique

Gather a Needle-tipped Applicator filled with Bookbinding glue and various widths of paper scraps and let's get crafting!

The finished size of each card below is 4.25x5.5", unless otherwise noted.

Tutorial

Place a small rectangular scrap into the paper trimmer* vertically, aligning the top and bottom edges with the blade on the diagonal; cut from corner to corner as shown below.

The cut should yield two identical triangle-shaped pieces.

Continue to trim scraps of various widths—a mix of prints and plains— in the same manner until you have a nice variety of triangles to work with.

Using a Needle-tipped Applicator, apply Bookbinding Glue to the back side of one triangle.

Position it glue-side down onto a folded card base as shown.

Adhere additional triangles adjacent to one another, leaving a very small space between each.

Continue adding triangles until you are happy with the overall design.

Once you are satisfied, trim the excess paper from the perimeter of the card with scissors.

At this point, your card is ready for embellishments and a sentiment.

To complete the card, position a cluster of embellishments to disguise the imperfect alignment of the triangle tips where they meet. Create a focal point with die cut shapes, tags or stamped sentiments—let your imagination be your inspiration. The possibilities are endess!

Black Tie Card - Julie

Cut triangles from Black Tie plain and Card Print scraps, using the tutorial above. Die cut a scallop circle from Ivory, top with a flattened gold flower (Abundance 09.25) and pearl sticker. Stamp the sentiment onto an Ivory scrap with India ink, mat with Black.

Northwoods Card - Julie

Create triangle shapes with Northwoods scraps: a mix of plain, Card Print and Rice Paper. Camofluage the tips with a Kraft Leaf Tag, Embroidered Leaf and stamped sentiment.

Black Tie Card - Lisa

I love how Lisa embossed her Black Tie scraps before trimming them into triangles! Die cut a decorative circle from Green, top with a filigree star (Starry Night 12.24). Add a length of ribbon and a stamped sentiment to complete the card.

We hope you enjoy the Sunburst Technique as much as we do. Grab some scraps and get crafty!
