Tricia taught the Petite Book Duo class during a virtual event a couple of years ago. Ever since, the class instructions—including an excellent video tutorial—have been available in our online store. With the purchase of the instructions download, you, too, can take this class any time, anywhere.
My daughter and two friends recently spent a day together at a local pumpkin patch. They took quite a few photos, so I wanted to make a book for each of them to commemorate the occasion.
Petite Book Duo
I love this project because it's a "two-fer"—a single page kit includes enough supplies to make two books. I took things a bit further, and created FOUR mini books featuring the Autumn Glow Page Kit plus a dozen extra sheets of paper from the collection. You could simply use two Page Kits, however, I found there were enough cutaparts and embellishments in a single kit to embellish all four books.
Four Autumn Glow Minis
Each individual book requires six sheets of paper. In order to construct four books, gather 24 sheets of paper and follow the step-by-step instructions a total of four times.
To recreate four mini books like mine, gather one Autumn Glow Page Kit plus twelve additional coordinating papers:
- (2) Card Prints (text weight)
- (2) Sm. Leaf Prints
- (2) Dk. Orange
- (2) Lt. Orange
- (2) Plum
- (2) Yellow
Divide the paper from the page kit equally, one of each print and plain. Repeat with the twelve extra sheets of paper listed above, making sure the text weight Card Print is assigned to Paper F for the second pair of books.
If desired, add a ribbon closure. REMINDER: The ribbon closure must be added immediately after step 10 of the instructions—before adhering the inside covers into place.
Once the four books are constructed, select cutaparts and embellishments to design a unique cover for each book.
For the cover of the first book, crop the cutapart to fit the book dimensions. Wrap Yellow Double-faced Satin Ribbon around the lower third and adhere it to the front cover. Knot a short length of Ivory Raffia around the ribbon. Accent with a Lg. Leaf Charm.
Deconstruct the "BLESSED" Drawstring Bag included in the page kit. Trim into a small rectangle and fray the ends. Add a bead of bookbinding glue in a needle tipped applicator to the perimeter of the fabric to prevent further fraying. Mat with two shades of Orange and accent with a Lg. Leaf Charm before attaching to the front cover.
Repeat the steps above with the "GRATEFUL" Drawstring Bag for the third book cover.
Top the "sweater weather" cutapart with a Lg. Leaf Charm and nest it onto the fourth book cover.
Decorate the interior of the finished books with the remaining Cutaparts and embellishments. Trim any left over papers to create mats, and crop the pre-cut photo mats to fit the smaller pages. Add photos inside the trifold pages.
Embellish blank areas with die cut leaves (cut from the coordinating Pack of Panels) and Pressed Leaf Stickers.
Since I only needed three books to gift to the young ladies, the fourth petite book is free of photos at this point. I'm certain I'll find a use for it in the future.
