It's no secret I enjoy making projects - especially mini albums and handmade books. Our online store has an entire product category featuring the variety of projects currently available. It's just like taking a private "virtual workshop" with Tricia! Many of these projects, like the Trifold Album, make great handmade gifts.
Whimsy Trifold Album
A single page kit includes almost everything you need to complete this project. First, purchase and download the Trifold Album Workshop Instructions. A link to a handy full-length video tutorial is provided that complements the written instructions.
Gather a Whimsy Page Kit, three sheets of Black Folding Board, and a few basic tools. (See the supply list on page one of the instructions.)
Before you do any trimming, substitute Whimsy papers for those in the instructions. Next, trim and sort the papers and folding board as instructed.
After assembling the trifold structure, decorate and embellish the album as desired. The finished book measures 6x9" and is approximately inch thick. But don't let the modest size fool you - there's plenty of room inside for photos and memorabilia.
Just as the "trifold" name indicates, the interior of the book is divided into three separate sections.
On the left, two trifold pages are secured with a 1" punched circle and mini brad.
The center section features an interactive waterfall panel designed to hold 10 (or more) photos. Decorate the reverse side of each panel with Cutaparts (or additional pictures).
The third section of the trifold features a pocket with a hook and loop closure. Fill the pocket with whatever your heart desires!
After the trifold is fully assembled, a few 12x12 papers should remain uncut. I made two different insert options to fit the pocket, using the exact same papers.
Option 1: A simple accordion booklet
Create a simple 5.25x8.25" accordion folded booklet with the remaining papers from the page kit. It tucks neatly inside the pocket and is a great place to showcase additional photos.
To create the booklet, trim three papers at 8.25" (with grain direction running top to bottom). Score the 8.25x12 horizontally at 5.25". Flip the paper from top to bottom and score at 10.5" Accordion fold each piece, linking them together with the 1.5" tabs.
Add photo mats and cutaparts to decorate the individual pages of the accordion booklet.
Option 2: An Explorer's Folio
Download a free copy of the Explorer's Folio instructions. Adapt the measurements to create a 5.25x8.5" version. Fill the folio with photo mats and decorate with Cutaparts from the page kit.
It's so easy to customize this project to fit your needs. I invite you to visit our full selection of virtual workshops and project downloads currently available in the store.
Happy crafting!
