Create easy stamped embellishments for cards, pages or other paper crafting projects with the Tile Technique. Gather up some paper scraps and let's get crafty!
Tile Technique Tutorial
With a Stamping Platform
Gather Tunisian Tiles Stamps along with an assortment of CS® Hybrid Inks. Trim paper scraps into squares in a variety of sizes. Place a square into a stamping platform. Position an image on one corner of the square. Close the lid to pick up the stamp.
Apply Sapphire Ink to the image.
Close the lid to transfer the bird image to the paper.
Rotate the square 90 degrees.
Ink the image and repeat the stamping process.
Rotate the square a third and fourth time in the same manner to create the "tile".
Once you've gotten the hang of it, experiment with different image and ink combinations.
Alternate Method—No Stamping Platform
A stamping platform tool makes this process easier, but you can still create unique tile images without one.
Select an image and place it onto a clear acrylic block. Ink and stamp the image in the center of a white square. Stamp additional images around the perimeter of the square as shown below.
Continue stamping until the desired effect is achieved.

Lisa created the card below with images from Hello, Sunshine (04.2020) and a sentiment from Architectural Elements (02.2025). She stamped the images on the white squares and then positioned them next to one another for an authentic laid tile look. The yellow paper looks like grout!
