Create fun and funky backgrounds with the Ink Squish technique and Club Scrap stamp sets. This works best with water-reactive ink pads and markers.

To make the samples, Lisa chose to use Aquarelle markers and I went with Distress and Distress Oxide Ink pads.

Ink Squish Technique

Gather a variety of water-reactive inks (Distress and Distress Oxides). Next, "squish" a bit of color onto a piece of clear acetate. (Don't have acetate? Try recycling clear plastic packaging or food container lids.)

Spritz lightly with water to activate the ink.

Flip the acetate over and "squish" the wet ink onto a white watercolor paper panel.

Remove the acetate and set it aside. Dry any excess moisture on the panel with a heat tool.

Wipe away any excess ink residue on the acetate with a cloth or paper towel.

Repeat this process with several more ink colors.

Add additional color over the dried areas to deepen the hues. Dry the remaining inks with a heat tool or set aside to dry naturally before moving to the next step.

Gather Club Scrap ink in colors that compliment the Distress colors used (Spruce, Ocean and Topaz - retired). Add stamped images from the Reef Stamps.

Stamp a sentiment with Spruce Ink to complete the panel.

Let's take a look at the finished card samples.

Marker Variation

Scribble Aquarelle marker onto a piece of clear acetate. Spray lightly with water to activate the ink. Flip the acetate over and press onto a white panel to transfer the color. Add additional color as desired.
