After participating in Tricia's Drop Spine Box and Mini Book workshop last week, I set to work to make a project of my own. This Hops and Barley Remix Drop Spine Box and coordinating mini album was the result of my efforts.
Drop Spine Box with Mini Book - Hops and Barley Remix
If you'd like to make a box and mini album of your own, simply purchase and download the instructions from our online store. Next, gather your favorite page kit, Drop Spine box Components, 12x12 mat board and a few basic tools. (You can explore Tricia's gorgeous Let It Bee Remix version, along with a complete list of tools and supplies, on her blog post.)
To replicate my project, use the following paper assignments:
Paper A = Dark Brown
Paper B = Stripe Print
Paper C = Ale Print
Paper D = Gold
Paper E = Dark Yellow
Paper F = Light Yellow
Paper G = Ivory
The instructions and video tutorial guide you through the paper trimming and sorting process. After the trimming is complete, construction of the box and mini album can begin!
The Box
If you've made a drop spine box with us in the past, the construction should come easily to you. If not, never fear, Tricia will guide you through the process during her helpful video tutorial. It's so rewarding to see the how the box comes together!
The sturdy 5.25x7" box is constructed from book board wrapped in gorgeous paper. Decorate the box with cutaparts, ribbon, and other embellishments from the page kit.
The Mini Book
The box makes a beautiful home for the 4.5x5.75" mini book. How clever is that?
The book is constructed of mat board, which is wrapped in more of that beautiful Hops and Barley paper. It features a ribbon closure. Embellish the outside cover of the book with cutaparts, bottlecaps, and charms from the kit.
Remaining cutaparts and embellishments decorate the inside cover and interior pages of the album.
Die cut the cutapart labels with circle dies and nest onto the round coasters.
Each trifold page features flaps just begging to be decorated. Trim cutapart border strips to size. Add a bottle cap embellishment.
The mini book is perfect for showcasing horizontal 4x6 photos. To fit perfectly, the photos should be cropped to 4x5.25" (no photo mat) or 3.75x5" (with a photo mat).
I'll fill the book with memories of our 2023 craft brewery adventures, and gift it to my DH for Christmas. Shhh...don't tell him or it will ruin the surprise!
