If you have followed the Club Scrap blog for some time, you know I love mixed media techniques. Mixed Media is a term used to describe works of art featuring a combination of different media or materials. For example, for this jumbo tag, I used homemade texture paste, Stipple Mists, Aladine Izink Gold Dye Spray, Distress Spray Stains, stamping with Hybrid Inks, and punched paper flower clusters. Phew, that is a lot for one tag!
Fairytale Castle Stencil Jumbo Tag Tutorial
Make a small batch of homemade texture paste. Combine one teaspoon Bookbinding Glue, one tablespoon baby powder, and one teaspoon acrylic paint (typically I would use white but I couldn't find it in my stash so I substituted light gray) in a plastic container and mix well with a palette knife.
Cover any open areas of the stencil with washi tape. Spread the paste evenly over the castle.
Gently press the texture side of a paper towel over the wet paste. Peel away to reveal the texture. Set the tag aside to air dry.
Lay the tag in a spray tray (aka Club Scrap pizza box) and spritz generously with a variety of mediums including Club Scrap's Lavender Stipple Mist, Distress Stains (Broken China and Faded Jeans), and Aladine Izink Gold Dye Spray.
Mist lightly with water to move the colors around the tag as needed.
Set the tag aside to air dry.
If you are impatient, speed the drying with a heat tool, but be careful, the paste will tend to bubble and blister. This is great if it is the look you are going for. Give it a try!
Stamp Fairytale images onto the tag with India Ink. Spray a small amount of Club Scrap's Opaque White Stipple Mist on an acrylic block. Paint the white mist along the edges of the stenciled image with a waterbrush to make the castle pop. Dip the brush in the mist and flick drips over the entire tag for a speckled effect.
Select purple, blue and aqua panels and punch a variety of flowers from each sheet. I love the duplex papers in this collection. They made fabulous flowers! Embellish each blossom with a bit of coordinating ink.
Add a sentiment and stars from the fairy wand image to a purple panel with India Ink. Distress the edges with Amethyst Ink.
Adhere to the tag in a cluster with the flowers and an Oval Frame.
Let's take another look at the finished tag.
