The Explorer's Box Project was completed on Club Scrap's 20th Anniversary Cruise and can also be found in the Cruise in a Box!
The concept for the workshop was designed by Terri Zwicker. We love the painted tissue technique on the outside of the box, making it look like aged leather. (It's not even super-messy, but you might get a little paint on your fingers.)
Explorer's Box Workshop Kit
The workshop kit includes the boards, tissue paper, printed text weight paper to wrap the inside of the box, a bronze clasp with screws, and four bronze corner protectors with nails.
The split lid of the box features a cool metal closure. The video tutorial included with the kit will help you find the best way to attach the clasp and create the trim.
Keep in mind that the anchor on the cover is not included in the project kit. Die cut a favorite shape from mat board, use thick stickers, or incorporate other dimensional items to customize your box.
Next, the wrapped inside of the box has two sections: a spot for the Explorer's Journal, and a shallow collage tray.
Fill the compartment with cool findings and embellishments. For example, this version was stocked with goodies that were included in the Navigation Remix Page Kit.
Components Only Version
If you want to veer off in another direction by making a box/journal in a different color scheme, we have a "components version" available. You'll find the book boards, mat board, clasp, screws, corners and nails in the kit.
Here's a sneak peek at Karen's fun box made from the components. (More on that soon.)
Potential abounds for this project, depending on colors, prints, paints and techniques used. I can't wait to try making one covered in our beautiful book cloth! Oh, and a wedding version would be fabulous, too!
