Create gorgeous focal imagery on any card, page or project with the De-bossed Spotlight Technique.

An embossed image is a raised design or pattern on paper. If you fllip that same panel over, it reveals the de-bossed, or indented, side.

Lisa and I found this fun technique on Facebook and couldn't wait to share it with you!

The finished size of each card below is 4.25x5.5", unless otherwise noted.

De-bossed Spotlight Technique

Toile Cards - Julie

For best results, choose embossing folders that have large open areas on the artwork. This allows the pattern to be more visible in the end product.

Insert plain white panels into your chosen embossing folders.

Run the folders through an embossing machine* to transfer the textured artwork to the paper.

Remove each panel from the folder. The raised images are referred to as the embossed side.

Flip the panel over to reveal the indented images, or de-bossed areas. This is the side of the panel we will use in our technique.

Gather another white panel; stamp the Toile butterflies repeatedly with Caramel Ink to create a background.

Cut a circle shape from the panel with a punch, shape cutter or a die* and cutting machine.

Position the Embossing Folder onto your work surface so that the company logo is on the back side. Open the folder and place the die cut circle inside.

Close the folder and run it through the machine.

The de-bossed images will be on the stamped side of the panel.

Place the die cut circle onto a non-slip non-stick craft mat. Carefully rub a Caramel Ink pad directly onto the surface of the circle. The recessed, de-bossed areas will be free of ink.

Position the inked die cut circle onto the de-bossed white panel (created earlier), carefully aligning the textured artwork.

Repeat the steps with the floral de-bossed panel. Stamp Toile flowers onto a white panel with Sapphire Ink and cut into a circle*.

Place the die cut circle into the embossing folder to de-boss the images.

Apply ink to the raised areas with Sapphire Ink.

Align the de-bossed artwork with that on the white panel, adhere with Bookbinding Glue dispensed from a Needle-tipped Applicator.

Nest the de-bossed panels onto folded card bases. Add sentiments and embellishments to complete each card.

Vines Card - Lisa

In lieu of stamped paper, Lisa die cut a circle from the Vines Leaf Print. She added texture with a dandelion embossing folder and highlighted it with India ink. She added a Toile stamped sentiment with Wine ink.

We really love this technique and hope you will, too. Happy crafting!
