Earlier this weekend, students learned how to make a clever accordion book in a box during the VOLUME Craft Along virtual event. The finished book size is 4x6", and it fits neatly into its own box with sliding drawer. It's easy to customize this project to fit any occasion. After finishing her initial project, Tricia made a second by pairing a Cartography Page Kit with the Instructions Download and a few other basic tools and supplies.
If you prefer to follow instructions exactly, the original workshop kits are still available in very limited quantities. The Accordion Book in a Box Craft Along Kit features the Bandana Page Kit and includes a link to a printable instructions and a full-length video tutorial.
Accordion Book in a Box - Cartography
To recreate Tricia's Cartography box and book, gather the following:

Cartography Page Kit
Silver Mini Knob(s)
12” Paper Trimmer
3x14" Grid Ruler
Bone Folder
ScorPal 1/8s (or other scoring tool)
Adhesive and Tape
CS® Bookbinding Glue with Needle-tipped Applicator
Scissors and Pencil
Phillips Head Screwdriver (Optional)
Trim and score the papers using the following paper assignments:
A = Kraft
B = White
C = Dk. Gray
D = Blue
E = Mountain Print
F= Ocean Print
Follow the instructions to assemble the book, as well as the drawer and sleeve that make up the box.
Drawer and Sleeve/Box
Trim the Cutapart sentiment to fit the sleeve cover. Interlock two lengths of ribbon; wrap the ends around the back side and secure with tape. Add an Arrow Woodcut to the top of the Cutapart with Bookbinding Glue.
The custom drawer is made functional with the installation of a silver Mini Knob.
The drawer opens to reveal the 4x6" accordion book inside.
Accordion Book
Decorate the cover of the book with a trimmed Cutapart sentiment and a compass charm tied with a bit of ribbon.
The book features an accordion spine that allows plenty of room for expansion.
Enjoy decorating the inner pages by adapting the Page Kit Cutaparts and embellishments and then load it with photos and journaling.
