July Page Sketch

So much more than just a "sketch", the July Page Formula creates a well-balanced two-page spread from five 12x12 papers.

Making pages is easy: Gather the number of papers indicated, trim and sort them according to the step-by-step instructions, and assemble the finished layout as directed by the sketch.

Tunisian Tiles Bonus Layout - Karen

This bonus formula might be a new favorite! It has space for 14 (or more) photos and the border element on the right page reminds me of a film strip.

To replicate my two-page spread, gather the following papers (from the July collection, unless otherwise noted): Dk. Brown from my stash (Paper A), Aqua (B), Red (C) and one each of the Grid Print and Coming Up Roses Ivory create the base of the layout (Paper D). Adapt artwork from the Page Kit cutaparts (Sheet 2, blue background) to embellish the completed pages.

Trim the 3.25x12 journaling cutapart to 2.75" wide. Nest onto the 3.25x12 Paper A (Dk. Brown) before centering it horizontally on the left page. (Don't worry, the 6x8.25 Aqua panel will "hide" the journaling lines.)

A single photo spans the space created by the two horizontal mats.

Cut individual 2x2 square "tiles" from the Page Kit cutparts. Use a grid ruler and pencil to draw journaling guide lines; add to the left page.

I love the look of the Tunisian Tiles Grid Print, however, I was worried about how busy the layout might appear with all that color and pattern. Instead, I decided to experiment with creating a "companion" grid print from a plain Ivory 12x12. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to learn how to create your own.)

Nest five 2x2  "tile" squares onto the Aqua mats on the "film strip" element.

Anchor the 3.75x6.75" mat with a 4x4 cutapart "tile".

July Bonus Pages - Tricia

To recreate Tricia's pages, gather papers from the Tunisian Tiles collection: Blue (Paper A), Red (B), Aqua (C) and two Grid Prints create the base of the layout (Paper D).

Even though Tricia and I used some of the same papers, our finished layouts are completely different and unique.

July's bonus formula requires just five sheets of paper and comes together in minutes! The trimming and assembly instructions can be used again and again to make additional pages with paper and supplies you already have on hand.

DIY Grid Print

Follow the steps below to recreate the grid print from a plain 12x12 Ivory.

1. Score the 12x12 Ivory at 9, 6 and 3". Rotate the paper 90 degrees and score at 9, 6 and 3".

2. Fold along each score line (burying the bump) until 16 equal squares are created.

3. Working with one score line at a time, apply a combination of Ash and Earth ink along the fold with an Ink Applicator Brush. Flip each fold over and ink the other side. Continue the inking process along both sides of each score line until the perimeter of every square has been inked.

Ink the outside perimeter of the entire 12x12 sheet.

Smooth out the folds, using a craft iron (if desired) to flatten the inked paper.
