Create a fun underwater scene on an 8x10" canvas with Lagoon papers and the Digital kit.
Lagoon Digital Hybrid Canvas Wall Hanging
Working with Digital Elements
Create a mermaid tail for the canvas with your favorite digital scrapbooking application. I work with iScrapbook for Macs. Virtually lay the scale background image next to the mermaid tail to determine the appropriate sizing of the scales. Crop and duplicate the scale background image from the quad element four times.
Bring the tail layer to the front so that it is on top of the scales and print onto 8.5x11" white paper.
Crop the bottom and top of the tail, being sure to maintain the same dimensions used in the original "scale" image. Print the top onto Lt. Teal paper and the tail onto Dk. Teal paper.
Create a background with the underwater quad image and print onto 8.5x11" text weight paper.
Working with the Printed and Paper Elements
Fussy cut the scale-patterned tail section, Lt. Teal top, and Dk. Teal bottom of the mermaid tail. Add shading details with a water brush and acrylic paints to the bottom and top of the tail.
Brush peach acrylic paint onto white paper and allow to dry. Sketch a midsection for the mermaid with a pencil and with the negative space left from the top of the scaly tail as a guide. Trace the outline with a black Sharpie marker. Fussy cut, leaving a small portion of the midsection for ease in adhesion to the rest of the tail.
Adhere the mermaid pieces together with Bookbinding Glue in a Needle-tipped Applicator. Tip: Leave small sections of the top and bottom of the tail in tact when fussy cutting. Add glue to these areas first and then lay the scaley middle onto the top and bottom of the tail. Allow the mermaid to dry completely.
Spread Bookbinding Glue onto the canvas and center the underwater text weight print onto the canvas. Burnish with the side of your thumb, being careful not to tear the delicate paper. Carefully tear off the excess paper along the edges while the glue is still slightly damp.
Finishing Touches
Stamp bubbles from the Jumbo UM sheet with white acrylic paint onto the mermaid tail to camouflage where the scale prints overlapped. Clean the stamp before the acrylic paint dries.
Tear off pieces of course sand paper and add to the bottom of the canvas to mimic the sandy ocean floor.
Continue adding elements to the piece including hot glue bubbles, funky silver net fabric (thanks, Lynn Borders), stamped fussy cut seaweed and sea stars, lots of glitter glue, and a matted sentiment.
Let's take another look at the finished project.
"Sea" you later.
