I just learned a neat crafty word: Kirigami. Turns out I've been using kirigami methods for years, but just didn't know the word. It is a form of origami where paper is folded and cut rather than just folded.

I discovered a neat kirigami-style box on Pinterest and designed a slightly larger variation with less difficult score lines. I love how it looks in the color of the Succulents collection.

How to make the box:

Score a 9x12" Succulents Pebble Plain vertically at 3 and 6".

Score horizontally at 1.5, 4.5, 7.5 and 10.5".

Score horizontally at 2.5 and 9.5", stopping at the first horizontal score line.

Rotate the paper 180 degrees and score horizontally at 2.5 and 9.5", once again stopping at the first intersecting horizontal score.

Cut along the solid lines indicated on the diagram with a CS® Grid Ruler and craft knife (for best results) or scissors.

Fold along score lines and adhere where necessary to form the walls and lids of the box.

Trim a 5.5x11" Succulents Wine Print vertically at 2.75". Cut one 2.75x11 horizontally at 8.25, 5.5 and 2.75". Trim the other 2.75x11 horizontally at 10.5, 9.25, 8, 6.75, 5.5 and 2.75".

Nest the panels onto the outside panels and inside covers of the box after it is constructed.

I adore the 1.5" satin ribbon in the Greetings to Go kit. Sandwich the ribbon between the box and mats to hold it in place and tie into a bow at the top of the box. Adorn the box top with a stamped sentiment and nested die cut shapes.

Fill your box with something fun. Even a tiny succulent in a tiny pot would work. Mine has a tin filled with loose tea leaves.

Is the word "kirigami" new to you?

Tricia
