Create whimsical backgrounds with the shaved crayons technique. All you need is a few things you may already have around the house: crayons, iron, parchment paper, and a cheese grater!
Shaved Crayons
Shave the blunt end of a few crayons over a white panel with an old cheese grater.
Trim a piece of parchment paper slightly larger than the panel and place on top of the shavings. Carefully iron the parchment to melt the wax into the paper panel.
I love the mottled background that is created with the technique. The color combinations are endless and can be easily matched to any Club Scrap kit. This panel will look great paired with the new Expeditions collection.
Shaved Crayons - Resist
Shave white crayon onto a piece of mixed media or watercolor paper.
Lay a slightly larger piece of parchment paper over the shavings.
Rub a hot iron over the parchment paper to melt the shavings into the paper.
Rub Distress and Distress Oxide inks directly over the panel.
Spritz the panel with water.
Remove any access inks with a paper towel. Set the panel aside to dry.
Finally, create a card to showcase the fun background.
