On May 20, Tricia taught the Handmade Box with Cards as a virtual workshop on the One of Kind Facebook group. Students created a hand-crafted box and a dozen cards featuring the Magnolia Club Scrap® Page Kit (plus a few additional materials). The sturdy 5.25x7" box features a unique drop spine design constructed from book board wrapped in card stock.
Magnolia Handmade Box with Cards
Due to the incredible popularity of the project, the original Craft Along Kit, as well as the Magnolia Page Kit, are nearly sold out. As a result, I was eager to see if I could successfully recreate the project with the Magnolia Card Kit. Since the kit includes twelve sheets of paper, it worked out beautifully!
To replicate my project, gather a Magnolia Card Kit and a Drop Spine Box Components. Follow the paper assignments below for each step of the instructions as shown in the Handmade Box with Cards download:
1 & 2: (2) Wine Plain

5: (2) White, (2) Green, (2) Pink
6: Skip
7: No photo mats

Trim and sort the papers according to the instructions - skipping step #6 and 7. The measurements to cut the Card Kit Cutaparts are different from than those shown in the project instructions. Consult the Magnolia Card Kit assembly for how to trim the Cutaparts and crinkled paper.
Twelve Magnolia Cards
After all of the trimming and sorting, score each card base. "Deal out" the card panels and Cutaparts. Tip: Review the finished card samples in the Magnolia Card Kit Instructions for ideas, inspiration and sentiment pairings. Are you ready for a tour of the finished cards?
The first four cards closely follow the original card design featured in the card kit instructions.
For the top two cards, consult the slimline card samples to select a trio of coordinating sentiments. Add one square image cutapart of the same size to create a cluster of four.
For the bottom two, mat single square sentiments (from the slimline cards), and nest onto a 3.25x4" image cutapart wrapped with a twist of ribbon. Use detail scissors to cut out the small magnolia blossom; add with foam adhesive. (Refer to the card kit assembly instructions to choose the appropriate "innie" sentiment for each card.)
Mat the 3.5x3" sentiments; adhere to the left side of the front card panel. Embellish with embroidered leaves or 1/2 of a laser cut flower. For the upper right card, nest the "congrats" Cutapart onto Green; tie with a length of wine ribbon. Mat with a scrap of crinkle paper and add to the card front with 1/2 of a laser cut flower.

Magnolia Drop Spine Box
When constructing the box, I chose a wine-colored ribbon from my stash for the closure. (Had I made the box before making the cards, I would have had enough ribbon from the kit. That'll teach me to follow instructions in the order they are written!)
Decorate the outside of the box with a leftover Cutapart sentiment nested onto a Wine scrap.
Cut two mini magnolia blossoms with detail scissors; adhere to the cover with foam adhesive.
After the box is completed, tuck the twelve greeting cards inside. The 4.25x5.5" cards fit the box perfectly - just add eight more A2 envelopes to create a lovely gift for someone special.
