The versatile
Ivy League Stencil can be used to create a gorgeous background for a layout with a few simple rotations.
Ivy League Stencil Layout Steps
1. Lightly draw a straight vertical line onto a
12x12" Kraft Plain with a
CS® Grid Ruler and pencil. To extend the width of the 3x14" ruler to 4 inches, simply piggy-back with the
8x8" Grid Ruler.
2. Add an intersecting horizontal line.
3. Place one corner of the stencil onto the Kraft paper with the straight edges aligned with the pencil lines in the upper left quadrant. Stencil the openings with
CS® Earth ink and an
ink applicator.
4. Fill in the remaining three quadrants in the same manner. Check to ensure you're using the correct version of the image to align with its neighboring quadrant. (Don't ask me how I know this.)
5. Add interest to the Kraft background paper by stamping assorted images of text, splatters, flowers, swirls, etc. featured in previous CS® collections. (
Paris Flea Market, Orchard, Cherry Blossoms, Shibori, etc.)
6. Continue stamping images with Earth ink until you're pleased with the background.
7. Trim the Kraft to 11.25" square and layer onto an
11.5" Green and 12x12 Burgundy Plain. Select two vertical photos and layer onto a 4.25x11.25"
Blue mat. To determine the size of the second photo, place the
8x8" Grid Ruler onto the remaining area and measure.
8. Mark the location where the Blue strip touches the edges of the stenciled medallion and cut a slot between the two marks with a craft knife and
cutting mat.
9. Slide the matted photo strip beneath the medallion.
10. Next, stamp the unmounted medallion image onto the lower left corner with
India Black ink.
11. Temporarily place a nested 12" border strip across the medallion, mark the top and bottom edges with a pencil, and cut slits from mark to mark with a craft knife. Slide the strip beneath the stamped image.
12. Finally, complete the layout with an additional matted photo and title.
I love how it all came together with minimal supplies used. I still have tons of photos from our 2017 trip to France, and they're going to find a very happy home with the
Ivy League collection!
Ivy League Stenciled Card
Follow the stamp basic steps to create a gorgeous 5x7" greeting card. (This is where I learned about using the correct "corner" to mirror the image. Do you see it?)
Happy crafting with the
