Dia de los Muertos Cards
I challenged myself to use a variety of mediums, techniques and color combinations. Below are a half dozen card ideas to get you started.
Card #1
I loved how the
8.5x11 Red Print from the
Surprise collection fit right in with the festive decor typically used for the holiday. Stamp and emboss the sugar skull on black paper with white powder. Stamp the sentiment, cut into individual words, ink edges and adhere. TIP: To save time, ink the edges of the entire sentiment before cutting into words. Then, simply ink the left and right edges of the words.
Card #2
Stamp the moon and sentiment onto a black panel with embossing ink and brush with silver Perfect Pearls. Nest onto a page torn from an old dictionary, wrap with black jute and layer onto card base. Finish with a few silver
star-shaped dazzles.
To achieve a perfectly-sized torn edge for the dictionary page, place the CS®
8x8" Grid Ruler on top of the measured portion of the page you want to keep, and tear along the ruler's edge.
Card #3
Mist the sugar skull stamp with water and color directly onto the stamp with watercolor crayons. If desired, follow the colors used on the artwork in the page it for inspiration. Mist with water after coloring to re-activate all of the colors and stamp onto a white panel. Cut around the image, sponge black ink onto the outside edges, and layer onto a Pink panel. Spray a torn dictionary page with colored mists to create a fun background panel.
Card #4
Inspired by the use of roses in
Dia de los Muertos festivities, I reached for my sheet of
Wild Rose stamps. (In stock and on sale while supplies last!) Stamp the framed rose/text image with embossing ink and brush with green Perfect Pearls. Stamp the larger roses and brush with rose Perfect Pearls. Lastly, stamp the sugar skull onto a separate black panel and color with silver powder. Nest the skull and rose panels onto coordinating colors and a folded card base.
Card #5
Keep it simple by stamping the small flower shape onto pink, yellow and orange scraps. (What a great way to use your scraps!) Punch each flower and arrange in a grid onto a black panel. Add the sentiment to a white nesting panel. Keep "paneling" onto a white folded card base.
Card #6
Draw a straight pencil line onto a white panel with a CS®
Grid Ruler. Mount the guitar image onto an acrylic block with an etched grid. Ink and stamp four times in a row, using the grid on the mount to achieve a straight row. Finish with a stamped sentiment and flower-shaped dazzles.
I could have kept going and going, but other deadlines await. I hope you enjoy making
Dia de los Muertos cards with this special release
stamp set!
