The January 2017 Color Me Happy batik-infused designs and artwork inspired me to revisit a fun technique from the past, faux batik. Faux batik is a resist technique and there are a variety of ways to achieve the look. A simple Google search will take you to numerous tutorials using different mediums, such as inks, sprays, watercolors, pastels, etc.
Carnation, Fuchsia, Amethyst ink on white card stock. Art Nouveau flower stamp.
I chose one of the easiest and most popular methods to create faux batik:
  1. Stamp image(s) in CS Watermark Ink onto white or light-colored card stock. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder; set with heat tool.
  2. Apply and blend 2-3 coordinating shades of Club Scrap Hybrid Inks using Ink Applicator tool.
  3. Lay finished artwork face down on a paper towel and use a craft iron to heat the reverse side. The melted EP will soak into the paper towel, leaving the stamped design behind.
Topaz, Tangerine, Fuchsia ink on yellow card stock. Art Nouveau sun stamp.
I had fun experimenting with different ink colors and my Color Me Happy stamps. The finished panels make gorgeous cards.

I hope this inspires you to grab your stamps and give this technique a try. Be sure to stop back later this month for the Artist Team Challenge blog hop. Our talented team of artists will share more faux batik techniques and artwork. Creatively yours, Karen
