I recently participated in Tricia's virtual workshop on the VOLUME YouTube Channel. During the two-part presentation, we learned how to make a stunning 6x8" Interactive Journal featuring Club Scrap's Kit No. 301 collection.
After constructing the Kit No. 301 version, I was keen to make another with the Woodland Remix Page Kit.
Woodland Remix Interactive Journal
My best advice? Make sure you watch the video tutorials. This is a pretty involved project, but with the help of Tricia's concise step-by-step guidance, it's totally achievable. And, you'll be totally impressed with yourself when the project is complete!
To recreate this project with the Woodland collection, gather the following supplies and tools:
Woodland Remix Page Kit
Interactive Journal Instructions Download
(2) 12x12 Dark Kraft Folding Board
Hook and Loop Dots
CS® Bookbinding Glue in a Needle-tipped Applicator
12” Paper Trimmer
3x14" Grid Ruler
Scor Pal 1/8s
Accordion Pocket File (optional)
Bone Folder
Corner Chomper
Envelope Punch Board
Pencil
Scissors
Once you've downloaded the written instructions, utilize the paper substitutions below as you sort and trim your papers. (Or you can always do your own thing!)
Paper A = Dk. Kraft
Paper B = Dk. Green
Paper C = Lt. Kraft
Paper D = Ivory
Paper E = Fox Print
Paper F = Raccoon Print
Tip: Be mindful when positioning Paper F in the trimmer (outside cover print) to preserve as much of the art as possible. In my case, I had to rotate the print to be sure the cute li'l fox holds a place of honor on the front cover. I couldn't bear to cover him up, so the only cover embellishment is a laser cut wood word, topped with enamel dots.
The finished journal size is 6x8" with a 1.5" spine. The book features inside pages added with Club Scrap's unique U-hinge binding system.
The project is aptly named - it's derived from all of the unique interactive elements inside.
A clever pocket inside the front cover features a two-part closure that reminds me of a saddle bag. It's designed to hold a removable folio.
Decorate the journal pages, the folio, and pockets with inserts by adapting the page kit cutaparts and other embellishments included in the Page Kit.
Twin pockets with trifold inserts provide ample space for hidden photos and/or journaling.
The back inside cover features four stacked pockets with inserts in staggered sizes.
This project is a bit more challenging than most, but it's well worth the extra effort to transform your favorite CS® Page Kit into a really impressive handmade gift. Just imagine possibilities - the ability to customize each book to the personality of the recipient or to document a special event/occasion.
Now that I've mastered the technique, I'm sure I'll make more of these in the future. Click on the links below to gather everything you need to make one for yourself!
