Create a beautiful 5x7" handmade book featuring artwork from Club Scrap's Cartography collection.

The Accordion Hinge Album is the perfect base for showcasing precious memories. The finished book measures 5×7″ making it ideal for 4×6″ photos from any special event or occasion. Making a gift? Customize the book for the recipient by selecting a Club Scrap Page Kit that reflects their personality or interests.

My grandson turned one in December, and his mom and dad took him to a favorite photographer for a photo shoot. Since he is blessed with a lot of extended family, I decided to make an Accordion Hinge Album as a holiday gift for his family members, near and far.

The colors in the photos immediately reminded me of November's Cartography collection. I needed to make a total of six albums; including books for two sets of grandparents, two sets of great-grandparents, a special aunt, and one for myself. To stretch the supplies, I supplemented Cartography Page kits with coordinating papers and panels from my stash.

Cartography Accordion Hinge Album

To get started, gather a Cartography Page kit and the Accordion Hinge Album instructions. (A few additional materials and tools will be required.)

To create a book similar to mine, pair the papers below with the numbered steps in the instructions document. (NOTE: Some papers are from my stash. The book is constructed with eight sheets of paper, instead of ten.)

1 - (2) Blue, (1) Kraft
2 - (1) Kraft, (2) Brown, (2) White
3 - Ocean Print
4 - Mountain Print

The 5x7" album features a clever and unique accordion hinge structure. The most intriguing thing about this book is the way the spine works. Not only is it beautiful to look at, the unique construction is quite functional.

Embellish the book's cover with a matted compass cutapart. Die cut "one" from a scrap with alphabet dies. Adhere the wooden arrow with Bookbinding Glue.

This book has space for SO MANY PHOTOS! The spine allows for quite a bit of expansion, so you can really load it up with embellishments, too.

Each page perfectly accommodates matted vertical 4x6" photos. If you start to run low on mats, pick up a Cartography Pack of Panels to supplement those in the Page Kit.

Trim border strip cutaparts to fit the height (or width) of the inner pages.

The back inside cover features a journaling cutapart with coordinating mat. I wrote a "dedication" note inside each of the five books that were given away.

I just love how this project comes together! Utilize an entire Club Scrap page kit to make a unique handmade mini album with very little waste. Check out Tricia’s video (included with instructions download) to see additional samples made using even more Club Scrap kits.
