As gift-giving season approaches, I find myself itching to make holiday gifts for friends and family. Since paper crafting is my passion, handmade gifts not only bring joy to the recipient, but to me as well. My latest project is actually a gift for myself: I altered the original Flexi Planner instructions slightly to create a garden journal featuring the Abundance Page Kit.
To create a 6.25x8.75" planner for yourself, purchase and download the Flexi Planner Online Class. You'll need to gather a few additional tools and supplies, including two 6.5x9.5 Manila Clasp envelopes, elastic cord and printable inserts.
Abundance Flexi Planner - Altered Trimming Instructions
To replicate my version with the Abundance Page Kit, use the following paper assignments for Steps 1-3 in the instructions:
1. (2) Orange
2. Dk. Brown
3. (2) Lt. Brown, (2) Ivory Print
The Flexi Planner project includes instructions to construct a dust jacket and slipcase for storage. I didn't need a storage "box" for my garden journal, so I skipped Steps 4-7 which outline the trimming instructions for the slipcase and lid. However, I still needed to create an Outside Spine Cover and Mat, so I combined those trimming instructions into one sketch, and cut and scored a Blue Plain using the instructions below:
Cut one Blue at 8.25 and 4.5".
Rotate and trim the 4.5x12 at 8.75".
Cut each 3.75x12 at 8.25".
Score the 4.5x8.75 vertically at 1-7/8". Rotate the piece180 degrees and score at 1-7/8".
Once the paper trimming is complete, follow Step 8 to prepare the Manila envelopes. From there, continue to follow the instructions for Planner Cover and Assembly (Pocket A), Inside Planner Assembly (Pocket B) and Creative Expression (Pocket D).
Assembly Tips
Decorate the front cover of the planner with a double-matted cutapart sentiment; add an Ombre Applique with Bookbinding Glue.
Stay organized with divided sections for each of the four types of inserts included in the Flexi Planner Printables download: Lined pages, graph paper, "To Do" list, and blank calendar pages. Or, if you prefer, customize your planner with the wide variety of free printables found on the internet.
The inserts are useful for sketching out your garden beds, making lists, keeping track of "To Do" tasks, and more.
The project features two altered manila envelopes. The "clasp" side creates a handy place to stash seed packets, plant identity tags, receipts, etc., while the other end creates a pocket that holds a removable panel for photos or other memorabilia.
I love the practicality and usefulness of this project. There are so many ways to customize the planner to fit the needs and personality of the recipient.
