Create gorgeous color blocked backgrounds with watercolor imprinting technique and Distress Oxide Inks.
I was first introduced to this technique in the Splitcoaststampers Newsletter. The hardest part about it is waiting for the panels to dry. Click the link to watch a helpful video tutorial.
Watercolor Imprinting Color Block Technique
Cut two 4x5.25" panels from mixed media paper. Trim one panel into three rectangles measuring 1-7/8x5, 2x2-3/8 and 2x2.5".
Swipe Distress Oxides directly from the pad onto the largest panel. I chose to work with Cracked Pistachio, Fossilized Amber, and Broken China.
Spritz the inked panel with water.
Lay the three rectangles into the wet ink, leaving a 1/8" perimeter around the outside of each block.
Weigh down the panel with an acrylic block and allow it to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
Remove the blocks and set aside to create a bonus card.
Mask off each color blocked area with post note paper, being careful to leave the 1/8" margin between each section. Stamp the Vintage Botany floral images into each color block with coordinating Distress Oxide ink.
Create highlights around each block and on the floral images with a white gel pen.
Complete the card with a stamped sentiment from the Vintage Botany Art Nouveau UM set. Adhere the panel to a Deluxe Yellow print card base.
Bonus Color Block Card
Create a bonus card with the blocks from the watercolor imprinting technique from the first card.
Spritz each of the inked paper blocks. Lay a portion of the Moroccan Spice four-panel stencil onto the wet blocks and allow to dry completely. Remove the stencil and create a card with the beautiful panels.
Adhere the blocks to a 4x5.25" White panel nested onto a Deluxe Yellow print card base.
Complete the card with punched paper flowers, die cut leaves and a stamped sentiment from the Greeting UM set.
