In preparation of the upcoming holidays, many crafty-types are looking for ideas for handmade holiday gifts. For the month of October, we challenged our Artist Team to create a project that would be appropriate for gift-giving.
As for my part, the Book-in-a-Book project from this year's Retreat is my favorite new project. It makes a great gift or keepsake for someone special. After making my class sample, I discovered how easy it is to recreate the project by trimming papers to the sizes outlined on the instructions. I made two additional Book-in-a-Book projects inspired by nature photographs from my dad.
For this variation, I paired papers from the Crewel & Unusual collection with Mystic Garden Foiled Fancies. The largest birdcage die cut was the perfect focal point for the front cover.
I trimmed Foam Adhesive Circles into strips to adhere the little birds for bit of dimension.
The front cover of the accordion book is decorated with a photo and a large moth foil die cut.
The frame around the inside nook is decorated with washi tape from my stash.
The inside accordion pages hold quite a few photos, especially if you use the front and back sides of each page. This mini book features photos of birds and water fowl my father took on his nature walks in our local park. He's become quite the photographer, so this book is a great way to showcase his stunning photos.
More foiled die cuts were used to decorate the pop up inserts inside.
For this variation, I paired papers from the Creative License collection with Butterflies Foiled Fancies. (If you love butterflies like I do, you'll love getting 32 different butterfly designs in this package.)
Creative License Embellishment Cutaparts and washi tape from my stash decorate the inside cover and nook.
The 8.5 x 11 Deluxe Aqua Print adds nice contrast to the front cover of the accordion mini book.
Inside, I added Dad's butterfly photos. The foiled die cuts add dimension and really dress up the whole project.
